About Sinclair SeminarsSINCLAIR SEMINARS is an educational organization that produced the Sex Offender Re-Offense Risk Assessment Videotape Training program. Lloyd Sinclair, the director, is a psychotherapist and educator who has specialized in sexual disorders and criminal behavior for 29 years. Mr. Sinclair evaluates and treats patients with sexual disorders in a private practice in Madison, Wisconsin. He also treats patients in a secure treatment center for civilly committed sex offenders and a maximum security prison, and frequently testifies in court as a forensic expert. He is the principal trainer for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections on sex offender evaluation and treatment. He is certified by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Sex Therapist, a Certified Sex Educator, and a Certified Supervisor and is a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr. Sinclair has presented his expertise to professional audiences throughout the United States and abroad. He was the founding director of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Treatment Network, a non-profit organization developed to train mental health clinicians in effective sex offender interventions. Mr. Sinclair recognized that mental health clinicians often were poorly prepared to evaluate and to treat sex offenders. Sex offenders present unique challenges to professionals that are unlike interventions with motivated, voluntary clients. Inaccurate assessments and ineffective interventions with sex offenders can result in traumatic consequences for communities and future sexual assault victims. Mental health professionals frequently have had difficulty accessing information about sex offending. Typically, knowledge must be obtained by attending a variety of conferences and presentations, requiring that professionals assemble their own curricula in a haphazard and incomplete way. Recognizing the deficiencies in educational opportunities for mental health clinicians, Mr. Sinclair and consultants developed the Sex Offender Re-Offense Risk Assessment Videotape Training Program. New knowledge is developing at a rapid rate in the prediction of sex offender re-offense risk. In recent years, professionals have changed their approach to this task away from clinical judgment, which repeatedly has been found to have poor predictive accuracy, to the utilization of empirically validated re-offense risk assessment instruments. Several such instruments have emerged, and their proper use requires considerable knowledge and training. SINCLAIR SEMINARS' Sex Offender Re-Offense Risk Assessment Videotape Training Program, taught by the world's leading experts in prediction of sex offender recidivism, provides evaluators and treatment providers with the necessary information to accurately assess sex offender recidivism risk.
